Don't Be Fooled By The Marketing Team Fact! Most of you will click away in the first few seconds and it will probably cost you hundreds if not thousands of pounds no matter who you buy your kitchen from. My name is Steve Hippel and I am the owner of Stephen's Interiors. Before you click away let me re assure you that this page of my site makes no attempt to sell you a kitchen. The purpose of this page is to give clear advice to those who are looking to purchese a kitchen. So let me start with the best tip that I can give you first. If you have a short list of suppliers type the name of the supplier followed by complaints in your search bar and check them out. But before you do that read on because there is a very good chance that doing so will make you a substantial saving. If I stood two identical kitchens in front of you and told you that there was absolutely no difference between them. Then I went on to tell you that one was £10,000 and the other was £5,000. You would "I hope" choose the cheaper option, after you had asked me why of course. This is a genuine scenario and I see it all the time and so do you, 50% off, half price kitchen sale, free this and free that. NO! It's not free you already paid for it when you bought the kitchen and 50% off what? Simple 50% off of double the price. So when you are offered a 50% off deal you need to take a step back and ask yourself if anyone in their right mind would realistically pay double the price that you are being offered your kitchen for. Then ask yourself is it really even that good a deal. It gets worse because 50% off is not necessarily a good deal at all. I'm going to let you in on a few trade secrets now and then give you some tips on how to get your kitchen at the price you should be paying so please read on. When our suppliers provide us with a quote the quote comes with a recommended retail price. We then get a discount on that RRP which varies depending on a number of factors. No one with the slightest bit of common sense is going to pay the RRP. But it does give us leverage if we say to a customer you can have your kitchen for half the RRP. I can't really tell you the discounts we offer because I said I would not attempt to sell a kitchen on this page. However I can offer you some really solid advice and tips that I promise will almost certainly save you a good deal of money. 1. DON'T RUSH INTO ANYTHING. Take time when choosing your kitchen and get a broad range of quotes. Get quotes from at least 3 companies and do not go to 3 showrooms. Go to one showroom at least but get a small local company to quote and an online quote. If you can afford the time its well worth getting one company to quote for the supply of the kitchen and another to get it fitted. Yes it takes time, but if it saves you just £1000 and takes a day or two of your time then that's a pretty good hourly rate isn't it. 2. SHOWROOM QUOTE. Showrooms obviously have high running costs and therefore tend to be a more expensive option for buying your kitchen. This is not to say that you should not buy from a showroom as there are clearly advantages in being able to go in and see how the kitchens really look when assembled and talk to staff face to face. The two main reasons for visiting a showroom have already been mentioned. If you find a kitchen you really like then make a note of the name and style of kitchen. You are now going to use the internet to find out who manufactures it and who else supplies it. This will give you your benchmark figure. 3. INTERNET QUOTE. Have a look at a few Internet suppliers for similar styles to the one you liked and do a search for the style you liked at the showroom. Spend an hour or two if you can arrange a quote or two and get a direct online quote if you can. What you are doing is getting a range of quotes which will probably vary considerably but remember so might the customer service of some of the suppliers and you don't want to be waiting several days or weeks to get a part that was overlooked in the planning. Cheap is good but not always best. 4. LOCAL FITTER. Get one if not two local companies to quote, ask around for recommendations, get them to quote for supply and fit as well as fitting only. When you ask people you know if they know anyone, try to go for people who say "I had my kitchen fitted by such & such and they did a great job and not ooh my nephew fits kitchens, unless of course he did a great job of there kitchen. You now should have enough information to go and get yourself a good deal from the one or two suppliers and fitters that you prefer. Buying a kitchen is not like going to the supermarket where you expect to pay the price it's marked up at. Remember earlier when I said how offering 50% off gives company leverage with the customer. Well now you have the leverage and if you put enough time in you now know that in many cases you should be looking for xx% - xx% off RRP so don't be afraid to haggle. Back to home page. |
