Fixing Your Kitchen Doors Drawers & Handles. One of the most straight forward tasks in fitting your kitchen, however it's easy to make silly and costly mistakes. When fitting your doors it is simply a question of pushing the hinges into the pre drilled holes on the door, straighten them and fix with screws of a sufficient length to give a strong fixing without showing through the other side of the door. These screws are usually supplied. The drawers may vary from one manufacturer to another but usually come with assembly instructions and are relatively straight forward. So all I can do for you here is to help you avoid some common mistakes. I personally always hang and adjust the doors before fixing the handles. The doors and drawers will nearly always come with adjustable hinges and drawer fronts. Once you are happy that all doors and drawers line up you should fit the handles. Find a piece of scrap timber preferably some left over end panel or plinth. Measure and drill out holes so that you can fix a handle to it. If the handle fits OK drill a third hole exactly central to and in line with the two handle holes you just drilled. Take one of your drawer fronts and mark the exact centre faintly and draw a faint line across the front of the drawer. Line up the holes in your template so that you can see the centre mark in the centre hole and you can see the line you drew through the centre of the two handle holes, clamp in place and drill out the handle holes. Fix the handle from inside the drawer with the bolts that were provided with the handles. Repeat this process with the other drawer fronts. One of the most common mistakes when fitting the door handles is drilling the hole in the wrong side of the door. As I said earlier I always hang the doors before fitting the handles for this reason. Like the drawer fronts it is a good idea to make up a template for the door handles. Because the doors come in different sizes it may be necessary to make more than one template, this time clamping the scrap timber to align with the top and outer edge of the door for continuity. It will only be necessary to drill out the handle holes this time as there is no need for a hole in the centre. Using a template will ensure that each handle lines up with the rest and sits in the same position on each door.
